march- & now you’re up to date!

wlydlife camp!

Similar to how I am the 6th grade girls small group leader at school, I am also their Wlydlife leader( After school ministry for middle school). All of the Wlydlife clubs on the island had the oppertunity to go to camp the same weekend in March! This camp is located right in Jarabacoa and they call it “Pico Escondido”. This is a weekend full of fun, time together as a group, memories and reflecting on God in our lives. There was a speaker, the gospel was presented, challenge courses were had and, lots and lots of pool time! I had such a blast with this group of girls and, I can’t wait to go back.

faith > fear

We all know as Christians that we are called to put our faith over our fear. What I love when this is executed is we realize how much more we can do through Christ and as individuals that we never thought possible. The picture to the right is the swing at camp that is almost 50 feet tall. When the students get to the top, they pull a rope that releases the swing and all of its momentum into the air. You hear kids screaming, laughing and conquering fear on this swing at camp. I had a particular student who was extremely nervous to go on the scary swing and, was determined that she could not do it. We talked about how life as Christians is not easy, it takes a lot of faith and, at times doing something anyways although you’re scared. She ultimately decided to give the swing a go and, she was so proud of herself, and so was I. These are just glimpses into the amazing life lessons one weekend of camp can bring and , the amazing ways God can move.

We start every morning at Doulos with a time together as a school called “flag”. Here, we sit with our buddy class, as pictured here, there are 9th graders ( whom I am in charge of) who are “buddies” with the 3rd graders. I love seeing the older kids love on and disciple the younger ones and, that Doulos is a place that believes in empowering students to be leaders and plenty old enough to take on responsibility for the younger kids on campus. We hear announcements during this time, jokes, sing the national anthem and pray together as a school before we all go about our day. As well as my favorite time to greet students each morning with a hug or high-5 to let them know how much we love that each one of them is at school. Flag time is always something I look forward to and, something that I feel makes Doulos very unique.

I’m a Doulos Teacher, of course I hug my students !

Watch this video to see just how FUN working at Doulos is. I love all of my colleagues and students and seeing how God brought us all to this special campus for a reason. It is crazy to think that as we are almost in April, in just a few short months I will have completed my first year here at Doulos! My contract remains for at least two more school years but- I am super willing and excited to see where God leads and guides throughout my time here. If you know someone who would love to work here, who might have the slightest bit of interest moving abroad or teaching- let’s connect! I love sharing what life here is like and, how feasible the move can be- if it’s in God’s will of course :) There are links on the Doulos website to know more or, inquire about starting the process of what a life changing move could be for you or someone you know!
