doulos - “life long servant”

Doulos Discovery School is a Christian English Immersion school in the heart of Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic.

Doulos is a term used in the new testament 127 times. The significance of this word to the school means that we are called to be servants for Christ. Through this well known and established institution, Doulos mission is “ Educating and Equipping Servant Leaders through Christian Discipleship and Expeditionary Learning to Impact the Dominican Republic”.

What will you be doing at Doulos?

I am super pumped to be the new High School English Teacher. I have always loved High School students and, I am SO looking forward to this opportunity to watch them grow, to disciple them and, teach them. I will also be part of other ministries in town such as WildLife ( YoungLife for Middle Schoolers), leading a small group of 6th grade girls at school after chapel every week and whatever else God has in store.

Another piece of involvement that I am super excited about is having the privilege to be the 9th grade guide teacher. (aka: homeroom teacher). Something else that Doulos prioritizes is outdoor education and every year, each class and their guide teacher get to take a trip to the mountains for a hiking challenge. I am planning on guiding the 9th graders to Valle Tetero ( which is part way up Pico Duarte, the tallest point in the Caribbean).

I can’t wait to get to know my students and their families. I plan on having the opportunity to visit my students in their homes and, build solid relationships with locals, other Dominican staff and North American staff.

Thank you for reading this page thus far! I am so excited to have partners so that I can do what I feel God calling me to. This would not be possible without the prayers, love and support from all of the amazing people around me. I feel so blessed and, I hope by becoming a partner in whatever capacity you feel lead, that you will as well.

One of the things that I love and respect about Doulos is their desire to maintain a mixed socio economic student population. This is the Doulos way of trying to bridge a gap where typically families who cannot afford to send their child to a private English immersion school, now have the opportunity. Doulos gives half of their students scholarship to be a student and that is maintained through their 12 years of education. With this, Doulos does not pay their North American staff to teach there. I am looking for partnerships to sustain my time at Doulos and allow for a healthy and productive environment that will allow me to do ministry well.

I am looking to raise $1,000 a month to cover the cost of living, as well as to build a savings for my future in the Dominican and travel back and forth to the States. If you are curious what the money is going towards, I have a budget that I am happy to share. I also am looking for one time gifts for start-up cost. This includes rent money, furniture, school supplies and more.
